Potential Cell Tower Occupants and Cell Tower Equipment Types |
There are several types of potential telecommunications customers that occupy roof space. They include:
- Cellular,
- Personal Communication Services,
- Wireless Internet,
- Two Way Radio,
- Wireless Data and Paging,
- Satellite radio, and
- Wireless television.
The Cellular, Personal Communication Services, Wireless Internet, and Two Way Radio customers all use directional panel antennas. These antennas are three feet tall by six inches wide and are arranged in groups of one to four antennas. Most telecommunication companies use three to four sectors per rooftop location, a total of six to twelve antennas. The Wireless Data and Paging Companies use one to three omnidirectional whip antennas. These antennas are in the shape of a broomstick and can be three to eight feet tall by three inches wide.
The placement of the antennas and equipment on a rooftop is the most critical decision with regard to a telecommunication installation. We know how to protect the astectics of the property by moving equipment that can be seen from the street. Proper antenna spacing and placement will help disguise the installation. We incorporate methods of disguising the antennas with stealth technology, including painting the antennas and mounting them flush with the building.
The equipment used by these telecommunication companies is always self-contained in a locked equipment cabinet. The size of the equipment cabinets varies from the size of a breadbox to the size of a refrigerator. The number of cabinets used by each telecommunication company varies from one to four. There are companies that place a ten-by-twenty foot equipment shelter on the roof. The shelter can be painted to match the building color, where it will look like an additional stairwell or a penthouse. With the exception of the rooftop shelter, equipment cabinets can be placed inside the building and will not visible from the street.
We also incorporate the existing architecture of the property to minimize the visibility of the antennas and equipment both from the front of the property and the view of existing tenants. We have incorporated fiberglass enclosures that resemble air conditioners or penthouse bulkhead extensions and have used trees and shrubs to hide the extension.
